Men, put your best foot forward!

We don’t focus nearly enough on the men in the wedding, so here we go.

I’ll never claim to be an expert on men’s fashion but I think I know a good thing when I see it. And lately, I have to give a lot of credit to the men for really raising the bar in footwear. You know it used to be the Bride that always got the shoe shot in the wedding photos but not anymore. Men are clearly becoming just as invested in the style and comfort (but lets be honest, it’s always style first!) of their feet, on their wedding day.

I’ll show you just a few of the great styles out there for men from Prada, Gucci and Ralph Lauren. You’ll notice I’m drawn to that Polo, Summer in the Hampton’s vibe, loving the brown and white combo. But for a black tie event, I’ve also included a great Christian Louboutin option.

In Calgary, Harry Rosen is a pretty easy stop to make. If you work downtown, you’ll find their TD Square location an easy stop on your lunch break or right after work. But if not, Chinook Centre has a great store as well.

Gotta Love Shoes!

We don’t really need an excuse to buy a great pair of shoes but if there’s an appropriate excuse out there it would be your wedding day!

And thinking of your wedding day, this may even be an occasion for multiple pairs of shoes right? Because really, are you going to want to dance the night away in the heels that you’ve been standing in since noon? Great quality shoes or not, those toes start to hurt after a while don’t they? Your fiance gets it, one look at those pointy heels and he gets it, you need a couple pairs. There’s no way he’d try to last in heels all day.

It’s rare but I have heard the occasional Bride say that they’re not concerned about their shoes because their dress will cover them. I know you have a long dress but please know that people WILL see your shoes and your photographer will always manage to get a shot of just your feet peeking out from under your dress. They love that shot for some reason.

Your wedding shoes aren’t like your wedding dress in the sense that you can and most likely would love to wear them again. So investing in a great pair of shoes for your wedding will not be money lost.  I always go with neutral colours becuase I was taught that a neutral or nude coloured shoe will elongate your legs (this is of course for later on when your wearing them again with a cocktail dress.) Black may not be a great wedding shoe selection unless of course black is your accent colour at the wedding. Typically a black shoe will draw the eye down and we don’t want the attention being taken away from your gown. Colours however are great and I love when a Bride purchases a wedding shoe that complements her wedding colours.

Here are some of my favourites right now!

I’ve never been a fan of satin shoes, particularly white satin wedding shoes but I have to admit that Vera Wang has me sold on these ones…

Like I mentioned earlier, this is a two pair of shoes event! So let’s look at some dancing shoes. The first pair, the pink Prada flats with the bows are my favourite, I just love them. But I get that they’re not for everyone, maybe you think they’re a little Minnie Mouse haha. In that case, here’s another great wedding flat from Vera Wang.

You’re a lucky lady if your future husband is as into shoes as you are but lets face it, he probably isn’t. That can be okay too though, maybe he’s assigned you as his personal stylist to select and purchase all his clothes! Here’s a great men’s shoe from Versace that I’m loving the look of.

Beautiful Bridesmaids

Happy Monday Beautiful Brides!

Did you see the movie 27 Dresses? How awful were some of those bridesmaids dresses! It’s crazy to think that back in the day, people really did have the mindset that the uglier the bridesmaids dresses were, the prettier it made the bride look. Ridiculous!

Lucky for your bridesmaids, we now take pride in every detail of our wedding including the bridesmaids attire :)

I think most bridesmaids that I’ve worked with are thrilled to keep their dresses and even plan on wearing them again….by choice! I attended a wedding on the weekend where the bridesmaids wore these great little cocktail gowns from BCBG and I thought they looked so great. And how easy is it to send your bridesmaids down to BCBG, regardless of whether they are local or not.

Sure, some of these gowns and dresses may be a little bit out of the price range that your maids are intending to spend. I always suggest that if you’re not purchasing the gowns for the girls, you discuss a budget that they feel jointly comfortable with. Should you decide on a dress that’s well outside of their price range, I think it’s definitely appropriate to re-visit your wedding budget to accommodate for the extra expense.

Having said that, lets look at some FABULOUS photo inspiration for the maids at your wedding!

Unless you’re working with a local stylist, Bridesmaids tend to get overwhelmed with too many options and believe it or not often don’t want to pick out their own dresses. So if you’re loving the idea of having each lady in a different dress, be sure to select a range of colours that work. Start by assigning a specific colour to each lady and then perhaps allow them to select the style that the feel is most flattering to their figure.

Or alternatively, you could select the same style for all of your maids and allow them to pick the colour that they feel is most flattering to their skin tone and hair colour (within your previously approved range of colours of course.)

Photo 3

Don’t forget though that ultimately this is your wedding! If you want all your ladies in the same dress and the same colour, go right ahead! Here are some gorgeous options. And consider adding some additional embellishment to the Maid of Honour as seen below.

The internet is an awesome resource for discovering what your options are and thankfully, most of them can be ordered online. But for some local inspiration, be sure to take a look at Frocks Bridesmaid Boutique. They are currently located in a pop-up location while the store’s main location is repaired from this summer’s floods. To book an appointment or check out some of their selection visit their website here: www.frocks.ca

Married to Couture!

My goodness some gowns just blow my mind! I love texture, I’ve noticed over the years that I’m really drawn to a gown that is just exploding with soft textures and I cannot contain my excitement over some of the gorgeous designs that I’m seeing. Can you believe that there are people in this world who envision these designs in their minds before they are ever created!

Can’t you just imagine the dream shopping trip with your bridesmaids to New York City to find the wedding gown of your dreams!

Here’s a few that I cannot take my eyes off of:

Photo 1

Does anyone else agree with me that the trend of the blush wedding gown is the best thing ever? That could be a whole other blog post, I think it will be but for now let’s just gush over all those soft layers!

Photo 3

Can you tell I like pink? I promise I like blush and ivory and white as well. Although, I do think you need the right tan to pull off a bright white. Here are some neutrals:

And don’t discount the importance of an amazing design feature on your back. There are some fabulous options out there that really place all of the emphasis on the back. Here are a few that I love!

Photo 8

This next one is a bit understated compared to the above but it’s really the intricate detailing of all the hand sewn sequins, the elegant design and clean lines that come together to create something so beautiful.

Photo 9

Now I know that I’ve been gushing over texture and this post is full of tulle and sequins but isn’t there just something so simple and yet luxurious about silk? This gown is classic in every way.

And last but not least, how much do you love this Christian Dior skirt. I would absolutely wear this in ivory as I walked down the aisle.

Something Old, New, Borrowed & Blue

Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed and of course Something Blue. All very traditional when it comes to your wedding. Have a special photo taken with all of these precious items to have in your photo album and show your guests!

Luxury Tip: If you can with this tradition, its always a little more special to have items that mean something to you or your family, however, it is also great to start new ones so don’t be afraid on having a little of both!
